Is your heart safe? Read on to answer your question

One of the most crucial organs of the body is the heart. No organ can function without the heart. Therefore it is imperative that the heart is kept healthy and vibrant to lead a happy, fulfilling and long life. Heart disease has been one of the leading factors of the deaths globally. When oxygen-rich blood fails to reach the heart due to artery blockage heart attack occurs. This blockage appears due to buildup of fat in the artery walls which further causes clots to form. These clots prevent the blood flow which finally results in heart attack.

There are some major factors involved which contribute to heart attack:

  1. Smoking: smoking cigarettes or tobacco can induce heart weakening. Smoking slowly damages the lungs and so causes the heart to be gradually starved of the oxygenated blood.
  1. Weight: being overweight or obese can be very dangerous to the body and is the root of many ailments which include heart disease and stroke.
  1. High cholesterol: though cholesterol is important for certain biological functions, excess cholesterol can lead to heart disease if not treated.
  1. High blood pressure: there is abnormally high pressure in the arteries. People with diabetes and obesity are more at risk of getting high blood pressure which is a major factor contributing to heart disease.
  1. Sedentary lifestyles: people who do not engage in physical activity are more at risk then their more active counterparts. Exercise is a principal component which insures that the heart is kept healthy as it regulates the blood supply and strengthens the heart muscles.
  1. Poor diet: refined and processed foods, sugar, carbohydrates and fat all contribute to this deadly disease. Therefore it is crucial that a healthy and balanced diet is maintained.

Being familiar with the symptoms and signs can lead to early detection of the heart disease and so save your life. Some of the common symptoms are:

  • Discomfort of the chest which lasts for few minutes. Pressure, squeezing, fullness or pain is experienced in the center of the chest.
  • Uneasiness is encountered in the upper parts of the body.
  • Pain in both arms
  • Back pain
  • Neck pain or discomfort
  • Jaw pain
  • Stomach aches
  • Sweating, nausea and vomiting
  • Shortness of breath
  • Light headedness and fainting spells
  • Breaking in to cold sweat

There are often cases when all or some of these symptoms are experienced but it also common that the heart attack happens without any previous warning signs. It is recommended that medical care should also be incorporated in the lifestyle to avoid such a situation. We live life only once therefore it is vital that we care and nurture our body to have brighter and healthier tomorrows.
